OLD SOLOMON'S FARM
About Us and the Farm
Old Solomon’s Farm has approximately 50 acres of permanent pasture and woodland on the banks of the river Tamar. The farm is managed on an eco-friendly basis and provides grazing for sheep.  You will see and hear our geese, chickens and ducks and may see  a couple of pigs depending on the time of year. We have a border Collie and two friendly cats

We do our best to encourage wildlife, insects and wild flowers. The farm has plenty for you to enjoy – you will see bats and buzzards, heron and wild duck, find evidence of badgers and foxes and might just catch a glimpse of a kingfisher or even  an otter. Our woodlands are full of bluebells and wild garlic and in the autumn rich with the scent of fungi. Down by the river there are wild daffodils (Lenten Lilies) and the rare Purple Toothwort.
In the 18th century this was a mining area and  there are remains of this industrial activity along our river bank. The miners used our farm track down to the river to go to work in Devon Great Consuls – the biggest copper mine in Europe in the 1840s. Sadly the bridge was washed away a 100 years ago.

We have a selection of local history books and information about the mining heritage. Information about farmers markets and  local food, about local attractions and activities, about walking and public transport is all available for our guests

Mikes’ other passion is classic cars and an extra welcome awaits any interesting cars. Currently a 1970 MGB sits in the garage and in the past we have owned a Riley 9 Monaco, a 1928 3 litre Bentley, a 1929 Alvis12/50, a 1934 Wolseley Hornet, a 1948 Alvis TA and an Austin Seven.

We are very fortunate to live in such a beautiful area and do our best to conserve the environment. Our vegetable garden is run on organic principles and we source almost all our food locally . We have solar panels and a bore hole for all our grey water needs.  Our visitors are encouraged to recycle rubbish and to  save water. We provide visitors with information about local food, farmers' markets and farm shops.
